after the rain

we had a beautiful rain today, thunderheads galore, breaking through the stifling first summer heat.

the plants are lovin it. i'm lovin it too.

it cleared up just in time for dusk. i wandered out to view the layered evening cloud colors, barefoot through the wet grass to the far fields where the summer squash have gone to early fruit. my toes happy in the mud, every step sending earthworms back into their holes as they felt my vibrations. there were so many of the wiggly squiggily creatures. i began to tip toe so as to not squish any of them and to encourage them to stay on the surface so i could watch them in all of their slimy glory. i wish i could have gotten silas & abraham out of thier beds to go on a evening worm safari. they would have loved it. i remember they joy of going out to the grass after a rain fall as a child to play with the worms. and the snails. i really liked the snails, the slimy trail they left in their wake.

and i got to see a snake and a frog today. cool.
